WELCOME TO PROSPECTIVE M.SC. MICROBIOLOGY STUDENTS

MESSAGE TO PROSPECTIVE M.SC. MICROBIOLOGY STUDENTS

Kantipur College of Medical Science (KCMS), established in 2004 has started B.Sc. and M. Sc. in Microbiology program since 2005 and 2007 respectively under the affiliation of Tribhuvan University. Till date, KCMS has been running eighth batch of M.Sc. Microbiology with specialization in Medical Microbiology for the first sixth batches. As soon as Tribhuvan University launched the Semester system for M.Sc., the college has facilitated with both Medical and Food Microbiology since the seventh batch. In addition, the college has also launched diploma in pharmacy (D-Pharmacy) and laboratory technology program (CMLT-Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology) under the affiliation of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). The main objective of the college is to generate qualified and skilled manpower and academics to fulfill the requirements of the nation. Till date, more than 140 M. Sc. graduates have been awarded. Each year, 30 new students are enrolled in the semester system of M.Sc. Microbiology Program (15 seats for Medical and 15 seats for Food Microbiology). The department of microbiology of KCMS has been lead by the competent professor, four full time faculty members and other visiting professors and faculties from national and international universities.
With a view to standardize the syllabus with international universities and to upgrade the level of M. Sc. graduates, Microbiology subject committee has revised the curriculum of M. Sc. Microbiology. The new curriculum emphasizes the research based teaching and learning practice. Besides this, the curriculum also encourages students to actively engage in research activities. All the students in M. Sc. Microbiology are mandatory to carry out a hundred marks dissertation work in partial fulfillment of the degree under the supervision of the respective faculty members.  Likewise, the students have to do project work in each semester. The Grading system is based on their performance in regular classes, presentation and seminar, attendance and assignments.
On this background, it is our endeavor to educate the students by motivating and encouraging them by imparting wide knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects in various fields of Microbiology, in one hand. On the other, it is our concept to make students innovative and inventive to hone their knowledge and skills to establish themselves and serve in wide area such as health, food and industries, environment etc. to cater the need of national upliftment as well as in widening the horizon of Microbiology. KCMS is a huge platform for Microbiology students to learn by research activities. Moreover, we have collaborated many hospitals in Kathmandu valley as well as outside the valley for internship and dissertation work. We are highly facilitated with Molecular biology lab, Research Laboratory for Biotechnology and Biochemistry (RLABB) in our ground, which has been working on different filed of Molecular Biology since 1981. The main objective of KCMS is therefore to acquaint the students for research and research based knowledge which will be applicable throughout their academic life.  We are also committed to develop analytical skill among the enrolled students. That is the reason behind choosing KCMS for carrier development.
KCMS is enrolling 9th Batch in M.Sc. Microbiology with specialization in Food and Medical.
Thanking you very much for choosing KCMS!!!
